The War of the Worlds has two parts, Book The Coming of the Martians and Book The Earth under the Martians. The novel is one of the most commented-on works in the science fiction canon. Written between 18, it is one of the earliest stories that detail a conflict between mankind and an extraterrestrial race. It is the first-person narrative of an unnamed protagonist in Surrey and his younger brother in London as the Earth is invaded by Martians. The first appearance in book form was published by William Heinemann of London in 1898.
